New Christmas iPhone Means New Project

First of all, Merry belated Christmas to everybody. I hope your holiday was relaxing and fun. I just got back from Dallas last night and am already back at work for the week. Then it’ll be new years and I’ll have that Monday off (yay). Shortest winter break I’ve had in my whole life but that’s just one of the things I – and everyone else – have to deal with after college life.

I’ve got a new project lined up in the spirit of the upcoming New Year that goes hand-in-hand (quite literally har har) with my brand spanking new iPhone I got from my parents for Christmas. Starting January 1, 2012, I hope to start a series called “A Design A Day”.

The concept is by no means unique but it is something that I hope will help me become the designer I want myself to be. It is exactly what it sounds like: I must design something every day for a year. Size and type do not matter. It can be anything from a logo for an imaginary company to an illustration of a character. It can be a typographical design just to be used for my own laptop background or a probably-never-going-to-be-made mobile app interface. Ideally other projects like Happy Ghost of my robot series would not count towards this “A Design A Day”, but I anticipate some overlap between these projects. So if I work a LOT one day on a separate project, then I guess I could count it towards my design for that day.

This is of course a lot easier said than done and I’m saying this while in that super optimistic mood everyone always gets at the beginning of a new year. But hopefully my desire to become a better designer drives me to follow through with this plan. I’ll most likely use my iPhone each day to tweet my progress. I’m determined to use this new phone to its full potential.
