A Design A Day: Week 1

I decided to combine my first week of ADAD designs into one blog post. I’ll be doing that from now on, hopefully every Sunday. So this is for last week’s and then I’ll be posting this week’s soon.

January 1: Here and Heaven

I made this while listening to the Goat Rodeo Sessions song “Here and Heaven” and it’s based on the chorus.

Fall, not winter; spring, not summer
Cool, not cold; warm, not hot
Have we all forgotten that
We’re getting old?

January 2: Read More Books

Following in the footsteps of some people on Dribbble and the amazing submissions on theTo Resolve Project, I designed a graphic for one of my New Year’s Resolutions.

Font is Franchise and the red is my handwriting.

January 3: Drink More Water

Yet another New Years Resolution. I was heavily influenced by a friend’s cool fluid funky style (I’m looking at you Nathan). Leaving the letters’ apertures filled in was an accident that I sort of embraced. I’m happy that the letters are still legible without them cut out.

January 4: Eat Better

Oh look! Another New Years Resolution.

January 5: Sick Day

Style based heavily on Nabhan Abdullatif’s illustrations and subject inspired by my own sickness. Being sick sucks.

January 6: Get Busy Living

Click here for a 1280×800 wallpaper. Or you can click here and see it in all its featured glory on To Resolve Project. Chris – founder of TRP – will be picking 12 out of all the submissions for 2012 which will be gathered for a print collection on Society 6. I know there’s no way I could be anywhere near the top 12, but I’m just ecstatic to see my own work featured on the same page as some of my design idols.

The big slab font is a really new font by Chandler Van De Water called Cubano, which is available for download at Lost Type Co-op. The script font is a Google font called Leckerli One. The pattern I used for the black background is from Subtle Patterns called Broken Noise.

January 7: Bring Your A Game

Illustrated in light of getting invited by Nathan Walker to Dribbble. Nathan’s been a huge inspiration and just a great help so far in my design & illustration journey. He even helped me out with picking some great art supplies, which I’ve already used a ton since buying them. Thanks Nathan again for the invite and I hope I’m making ya proud.

(I made it a jellyfish playing basketball to match the octopus playing ping pong that Nathan designed for our T3 ping pong tourney shirts)

So there you have it. Week 1! I gotta grab a late lunch and do some errands but once I come back, I’ll post everything for Week 2!
