I’m a gamer. I’m not a super great gamer and I don’t play that many games, but I do consider myself a part of this community. I grew up watching and playing games with my brother and they’ve always been present in my life.
Awesome Games Done Quick (and it’s Summer version Summer Games Done Quick) is an event that makes me really proud to call myself a gamer. In case you don’t know what it is, it’s a week-long charity event hosted by the speedrunning community at Speed Demos Archive that benefits the Prevent Cancer Foundation. (SGDQ benefits Doctors Without Borders.) All week long, speedrunners will glitch and cheat their way through a multitude of games streamed live on Twitch. Donations will flood in and can be used towards certain incentives like blindfolded runs, one-handed runs, and more.
Each year, both AGDQ and SGDQ keep growing bigger and bigger which is fantastic because that means more money for these charities.
I encourage you to check it out and donate if you can afford to. It starts SUNDAY January 8.
P.S Save the frames; kill the animals!
